The concept of 'Owner history' captures information about the different actors in the projects and their relationship to individual objects in the model. A owner history is attached to almost everything in the IFC model and some people think this is just too much owner histories. It is not quite clear what the owner history is supposed to do in the current implementations. In theory it could be used for change management, but currently it is not used for that.
Luckily the owner history can be shared, in the extreme case there is just one owner history in the model and all instances reference that single owner history instance. It could be good to instantiate a new owner history object for each edit session or each IFC-OUT event, but this functionality has not been validated yet.
