Definition

The units that are used in the IFCs are defined once for each instantiated model. The units can be found through the IfcProject instance; there is always only one IfcProject instance in each instantiated model.

At the moment we are using only metric units, but imperial units are also allowed by the IFC model. The question is if we want to use them in exchange files, internally programs can do whatever they like. Converting from imperial to metric and back to imperial can lead to the loss on some accuracy. If there is need to use imperial units in instantiated IFC models it can be done.
