Bounding box is the most basic form of geometric representation in the IFC model. The bounding box is a simple box that totally encloses the object that it represents.

The bounding box can be used for simple representation or e.g. interference checking, but it should not be used for extracting quantities from the model. The quantities should be extracted from the standard geometry, or they should be calculated by the sending application.
