Voids element

Version : 001 (18/06/00)

Definition

The concept of 'Voids element' describes the connection between a building element (e.g. wall, slab) and the opening element that makes a void (hole) into it. This kind of relationship can be used to enable intelligent behavior in programs (if wall is moved then also all doors and windows in it are moved) or to enable more precise quantity takeoff (this is the area of the wall after deducting the openings from the total area of the wall).

The concept of "Fills element" then associates the doors and windows to the opening. The opening can also be empty.
