Clipping half space

Version : 002 (11/12/00)

Definition

The concept of 'Clipping half space' is used together with extruded or revolved solids to 'clip' away parts of the solid. The most common case is a roof clipping a wall, but clipping can also be used in other cases.

The 'Clipping half space' is defined by a 3D clipping plane in space and a 2D curve given in the local coordinate system of the clipping plane that defines the active area of the clipping plane. The clipping always occurs in the direction of the global Z-axis and the direction of the clipping (above or below the clipping plane) is defined by a sense agreement flag. As an R1.5.1 implementers agreement the curve defining the active clipping is defined by a Ifc2DCompositeCurve that only uses segments where the ParentCurve is of type IfcLine or IfcPolyline.
