Unlike other views the CAD view is not strictly driven by a business case. This view defines the geometric model of the building that can be used to support business cases. Most views make use only of some of the building elements and their geometry, but since CAD programs usually support all elements in the CAD view it makes sense to implement them all. This also allows for some level of data exchange between different CAD programs, although the IFCs were not designed with this requirement in mind and consequently there will be loss of data in the process.
